Garden scoops silver on Chelsea debut

The National Botanic Garden of Wales’ ‘Get Well Soon’ artisan garden has won a Silver medal at the 100th RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Director, Dr Rosie Plummer said: “We are absolutely thrilled at getting a medal with our first ever Chelsea garden. We are a young garden, and a small team on a tight budget, so this is a major achievement first time out.”

Get Well Soon illustrates the many ways in which a garden and its plants can improve your health through ancient, traditional, modern and alternative forms of medicine.

Dr Plummer paid a special tribute to designers Maggie Hughes and Kati Crome who have worked tirelessly to produce a truly stunning garden: “Maggie and Kati have done such a fantastic job. We hope they are as proud and pleased as we are. We have had such a phenomenal reaction from the people here at the show – it really is amazing.”

Dr Plummer also thanked the sponsors of the ‘Get Well Soon’ garden: Penn Pharma, from Tredegar; the South West Wales Tourism Partnership; and Growing the Future; and everyone else who contributed to the success, especially the team who laboured long and hard in the 10-day ‘build’ in the run-up to the show.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is on until Saturday May 25th.

Byddai’n well o lawer petaech wedi canolbwyntio ar greu gardd yn sioe Caerdydd yn hytrach nag edrych dros y ffin i Chelsea. Ymlaen at 2014!

Paul – Diolch yn fawr am eich sylwadau. Fel mae’n digwydd roeddwn yn RHS Caerydd eleni gydag arddangosfa a gardd. Aethom at Chelsea eleni ar gyfer 100fed camlwyddiant sioe flodau orau’r byd yn 2013. Rydym yn chwarae dros Gymru ar lwyfan y byd yn ogystal ag yng Nghymru.

Paul – Many thanks for your comments. Actually we were at RHS Cardiff this year with an exhibition and garden. We chose to do Chelsea this year as it was the 100th anniversary of the greatest flower show in the world in 2013. We aim to play for Wales on the world stage as well as in Wales.
