New Exhibition – Up-Cycled: Bright New Things

Bruce Langridge

We are very happy to be exhibiting the lovely work of First Year BA Textiles students from Cardiff School of Art & Design.

The students’ work is based on an up-cycle project inspired by the Cardigan based, global brand Hiut Design & Co as well as visits to the Garden and the Botanical Illustration Library at the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff.

The students were asked to deconstruct old denim items and transform them using skilful stitch and print techniques. The project forms part of the undergrad curriculum that embraces sustainability, a mission shared by the Garden.

At first glance the pieces look simple but take a closer look and you will see that each holds a wealth of intricate and complicated design techniques, all with brilliant effect.

The exhibition is on in the Apothecary’s Hall until the end of June so make sure you check it out when visiting the Garden.
