Carmarthenshire Outdoor Schools: Year 2

Bruce Langridge

After the success of the first year of Carmarthenshire Outdoor Schools we have opened the scheme to other schools in the county and we have 8 schools that are looking to get involved in the 2016/17 academic year!

These schools have been invited to meet with our pilot schools that will now be acting as lead schools in the county to help propel the initiative. During this meeting they will be given opportunity to take a look at some of the Outdoor Learning opportunities developed by the lead schools, find out about the benefits of taking part in the project and discuss the challenges involved.

In the coming academic year the new schools will identify their Outdoor School site and take more and more of their learning outdoors. We will also look to arrange training sessions for all the schools involved on topics agreed by the group.

We have produced a guidance document to support schools as they become Outdoor Schools.

Although I am leaving the Garden at the end of August I will remain involved in the project remotely which will be supported here by the Healthy Schools team at Carmarthenshire County Council. I will continue to share updates, including an exciting announcement in September…
