Doggy Weekend
There’s a special treat for dogs and their owners with a Doggy Weekend on Saturday January 7th and Sunday January 8th at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. And entry to the Garden on this January weekend is FREE, with no charge for dogs either.
What better way to try out some of the Garden’s new ‘Fit For Free‘ walks?
We have created a series of trails around the Garden – some on flat paths to suit strollers, pushchairs and wheelchairs and some more rugged, off-road routes around the estate and past the waterfall. And each route has a ‘cupcake’ rating that indicates the degree of difficulty.
And don’t forget, through the winter: every Monday is Doggy Day!
Building Our Heritage
The Garden will be hosting the Tywi Centre‘s Building Our Heritage event on Saturday January 7th. Come to meet the experts and find out everything you need to know about living in and looking after old buildings.

Alfred Russel Wallace’s Birthday
Sunday, January 8th will mark Alfred Russel Wallace‘s 194th birthday.
The Garden’s Wallace Garden is named in honour of the Usk-born naturalist, whose own work on the theory of evolution by means of natural selection prompted Charles Darwin to publish his ‘On the Origin of Species by Natural Selection’.
Make sure to visit the Wallace Garden on your next visit which aims to raise the understanding and interest in plant breeding and genetics.
Welly Wednesday Returns
Now that the new school term has started, it’s time to welcome back Welly Wednesday.
Welly Wednesday features an hour of fun, outdoor activities, storytelling and exploring for pre-schoolers and is a great way for parents to get their toddlers close to nature with 60 minutes of fun in the woods with water and mud – whatever the weather!
Activities will start at 11am from the Gatehouse and admission on every Wednesday throughout January is completely free!
