Hello! My name’s Joel Meredith, I’m a Sport and Physical Education graduate from Cardiff Met currently working as a Personal Trainer in David Lloyd Cardiff.
As well as this I’m a qualified level 2 Olympic Weightlifting Coach which is my favourite form of training.
I’ve always wanted a career in the sports industry and been interested by all things sport related. When I was younger I was a keen rugby and 7’s player but my main sport was hockey in which I was lucky enough to attend the Welsh U18 training camp. I was also into swimming which allowed me to play underwater hockey for the Welsh U21’s, this believe it or not was easily the hardest sport I played.
I’ve always found that playing sport and participating in regular exercise contributed towards a better quality of life for myself. And by taking exercise psychology as a module in Uni it helped me understand why.
Exercise is something that anybody can do at absolutely any time whether that’s outside running alone, or with a friend or with complete strangers at a random class you thought you’d try out. It’s the simplest, most efficient way of feeling good about yourself which doesn’t actually take as much effort as you’d think. And the amazing thing is once you start exercising and you start that positive feedback loop of feeling good from exercise, you want to continue which simply snowballs until you start to feel proud of what your body can do.
So my advice to absolutely anybody is just start moving.
