Pollinator of the day #7 – Eristalis pertinax

One of our most common hoverflies, this species belongs to a group of hoverflies that resemble honeybees. This particular Eristalis has a long abdomen with the distinguishing feature being its first two sets of legs are yellow. They can be seen from spring through to the end of summer within a variety of habitats from grasslands to gardens. Like most hoverflies, it can often be seen on the open flowers of plants within the carrot family such as hogweed and angelica.
