Speckled Wood

Pararge aegeria

The speckled wood is a medium-sized butterfly, and it can be seen in a few different environments, such as gardens and woodlands.

Adults feed on honeydew that has been secreted by aphids – they hardly ever drink nectar from flowers!

Adult females lay eggs on plants such as cock’s-foot grass and common couch.

Look out for them in Spring Woods and Fairy Wood.
