Wales Fungus Day
Our 6th annual Fungus Day promises a mix of science, fun, art and magic that will appeal to anyone curious about these most fascinating, and mysterious lifeforms.
The event includes –
- Guided walks and talks about fungi in meadows, flower beds, lawns and woods
- Tony’s Table– a cornucopia of fresh fungal fruiting bodies
- Fungi and fairy-inspired ballet with Llangain Youth Ballet
- Find out what fungi you can eat, and what you really shouldn’t eat
- The Fairy Wood Trail – look for signs of fairies deep within our fungi-rich Fairy Wood and post a letter to the fairies in the fairy village
- Display of the Roy Watling fungi library
- Last chance to see the enormously popular ‘From Another Kingdom’ fungi exhibition
- Displays of fungi-inspired textiles, art and illustrations
- Lots of fungi and fairy-inspired family activities
- Stalls selling fairy and fungi bits and bobs
Admission is free to anyone dressed as an elf or fairy!
Guided Tours:
11am-12pm: Fairy Woods with Pat O’Reilly
12.30 -1pm: Enwau Cymraeg Ffwng gyda Jean Oliver & Bruce Langridge
1-2.30pm: Waxcap Meadows with David Mitchel
3-4pm: The Garden’s Fungi Hotspots with Bruce Langridge
All walks start from Western entrance of the Great Glasshouse
Admission to the Garden is £10.50 (including Gift Aid) for adults and £4.95 for children over five.
Entry is FREE for Garden members and parking is free for all.

Doggy Weekend
There’s a special treat for dogs and their owners with a Doggy Weekend on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 of October at the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
Don’t forget, EVERY Monday is Doggy Day at the Garden!

Dogs are permitted in Y Pot Blodyn’s coffee shop, the Seasons Restaurant, the Gift Shop and the main concourse of the Great Glasshouse.
Dogs are not permitted on the Great Glasshouse’s inner paths, the Butterfly House, nor the children’s play area.
Extendable leads are not permitted, you can swap yours for a non-extendable lead at the main entrance.
Shwmae/Sumae Day
Shwmae/Sumae Day, on Sunday the 15th of October, is a day to share and celebrate the Welsh language.
To celebrate and encourage the day, the Garden is offering half price entry to all Welsh learners. As well as this, and as it’s also Wales Fungus Day, there’ll be a Welsh language fungi tour at 12:30-1pm from the Western Entrance of the Great Glasshouse.
Menter Cwm Gwendraeth Elli will be holding informal Welsh conversation sessions in the Great Glasshouse from 1:30-3:30pm – with help and guidance to anyone looking to learn Welsh.
Royal Welsh Run
This is a brand new event to raise money for this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
Carmarthen are the feature county of the show and are organising a 2.5k walk & run, 5k run & 10k run for all ages & abilities at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Sunday 15th October.
Sign up to take part here. There are cash prizes for the first place male and female, with medals for all those who finish their races.
The Garden on Bargain Hunt

Hocus Pocus Under The Stars
There’s an early Halloween treat in-store at the Garden on Saturday, October 28th, with a spooktacular outdoor cinema experience showing of the Disney classic, Hocus Pocus!
There’ll be Halloween fancy dress, fire pit, barbecue, bar, Halloween punch, toffee apples, popcorn, spooky music and more.
Prizes will be given out for the best fancy dress!
As it’ll also be the first day of the autumn half-term, there’ll be plenty of Halloween family activities, pumpkin carving, conkers, apple bobbing, art and crafts on throughout the day, and as your cinema ticket will also give you entry to the Garden, why not make a day of it here?
Tickets are £12 for adults and £8 for children under 16 years old, and available here. Event starts at 5pm, film starts at 6:30pm.

The British Bird of Prey Centre
There are awesome encounters to be had EVERY day at the National Botanic Garden’s brand-new attraction – The British Bird of Prey Centre – with a daily flying display at 2:30pm!
You’ll be able to enjoy amazing flying displays by a Merlin, Red Kites, a Barn Owl and many more!
Heritage Tours
On the first Wednesday and the last Friday of the month, from October to March, come and learn more on the Garden’s fascinating history. Starting at 2pm from the Western Entrance of the Great Glasshouse.
Terrain is uneven and can often be muddy; please wear sturdy footwear.
Welly Wednesday
Every Wednesday during term-time, there’s an hour of fun, outdoor activities for pre-schoolers and their grown-ups! Starting at 11am from the Gatehouse.
