A heritage landscape awaits
Follow the interweaving network of paths and you will find a Regency-period landscape complete with scenic views, stunning water features and a glimpse into the estate’s past. The historic character is a remnant of a late 18th and early 19th Century cultural movement that valued immersion in natural environments and all that was beautiful, picturesque and sublime. Managed today as part of our Waun Las National Nature Reserve, the parkland, lakes and woodlands are home to an array of wildlife.
Pont Felin Gȃt is a broadleaf woodland of beech, hornbeam, oak and ash with carpets of bluebell Hyacinthoides non-scripta, wood anemone Anemone nemorosa and golden saxifrage Chryospenium oppositifolium in the spring, which give way to ferns then in autumn, a spectacular array of fungi, some nationally rare.
Pathways, bridges and lakes have recently been reinstated to bring you closer to nature. Watch out for nesting spotted flycatchers in late spring, kingfishers, dippers and dragonflies on the lakes and streams, and if you’re very lucky, otters and brown trout.
For many of our visitors, the waterfall and cascades, human-made features from the late 18th century, provide a stimulating high point, evoking similar sights, sounds and feelings that thrilled visitors here 200 years ago.
