The new and brilliant British Bird of Prey Centre is an amazing addition to the many splendours of the Garden.
In partnership with The British Bird of Prey Centre, we have established a very special attraction with a real ‘wow’ factor – where you can see eagles fly every day.
The The British Bird of Prey Centre team have been regular performers at the Garden for several years but this collaboration takes us to a whole different level and the British Bird of Prey Centre directors, Emma and Alex Hill have big plans for the future.
The team already offer daily flying displays and special hands-on experiences but the ambition is that it becomes a centre of excellence specialising in the breeding and conservation of British raptors.
Already at home there are 20 native birds of prey including hawks, falcons kites and buzzards, as well as eagles
Emma says: “This is one of the very few places in the whole of the UK you can see a golden eagle flying.”
With two flying displays every day and a daily ‘owl show’, too, the new centre is proving a big hit with people of all ages.
Said Emma: “Few visitors will know very much about our native raptors and fewer still will have seen them in the wild. Now, they have the perfect opportunity to find out about these amazing animals up close and personal.”
“The more we can spread the conservation message, the more likely we are going to be able to keep these fabulous birds thriving in the wild.”
The Botanic Garden’s director Huw Francis said with the British Bird of Prey Centre adding to the menu of attractions, the offer here is getting close to being irresistible: “With rising visitor numbers, great reviews and a growing reputation, the Garden really is going from strength to strength.”
Daily flying displays take place at 11.30am and 2.30pm with a daily owl show at 1pm.
There are also opportunities to fly the birds yourself.
Owl and Red Kite taster sessions take place daily, allowing you the opportunity to have these birds fly to your glove. These are £10 for 30 minutes and can be booked on arrival at the centre (10 people max).
For those who wish to have a more personal experience, private experiences take place every morning. You can fly 4 different species of raptor around the garden for 2 ½ hours for £75 per person. These are private experiences and therefore need to be pre-booked at firstname.lastname@example.org or 07444177818.
The centre was officially opened by the Tourism Minister Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas on July 9th, 2018.
