The Great Glasshouse at its best

Ardd Fotaneg · Botanic Garden

Now is the perfect time to visit the Great Glasshouse.

This spectacular dome is the largest single-span great glasshouse in the world and is looking its very best, right now!

It is filled with Mediterranean climate-zone plants from around the world, which are nurtured and loved by our dedicated ‘indoor’ team and enjoy all the benefits of being under glass.

Right now, the lilacs of California, and flowers from Western Australia, South Africa, Chile and the Mediterranean basin are looking fabulous. But it is the flowers of The Canaries – the sixth dome zone – that really stand out from the crowd.

There are geraniums from Madeira; giant, architectural dragon trees; and gorgeous blooms bursting out all over; but the finest sight at this time of year must be the echiums.

They are exploding into life right now, like amazing slow-motion fireworks, reaching up towards the sun with their huge spikes which very quickly get covered in a mass of flowers to make the sight all the more special.

Don’t forget that our Mediterranean Café is located inside the Great Glasshouse too – the perfect place to enjoy all the sights, sounds and scents of the Med plus coffee and cake!

The Garden is open from 10am to 6pm with last entry at 5pm.

Entry is FREE for Garden members and parking is FREE for all.
