Featherhead

Phylica pubescens

This plant might look fluffy but it’s even fluffier than it looks

So much so that in the Garden its nickname is ‘fluffy’ although it’s common name is featherhead.

Texture is an under-rated botanical virtue but one that we love at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Come along to our Fascination of Plants tour here on 18th May and we’ll have you feeling one of the most sensuous plants you’ll ever touch.

Featherhead is a low growing evergreen shrub that can be found in the South African section of the Great Glasshouse – it’s native to the fynbos of the Cape peninsula where its Africaans name is veerkoppie (spring cup).
