The peacock is a large, common butterfly, with very distinctive, colourful eyespots that are meant to deter predators.

The undersides of the wings are a dull, brown colour, keeping it camouflaged when its wings are closed.
Adults can be seen in many months of the year in a range of different environments if it’s warm enough for them to fly, and caterpillars can be found on nettles.
Look out for them all over the Botanic Garden.
