White Spindles

Clavaria fragilis

This ghostly fungus fruits on our waxcap-rich meadow on Waun Las NNR. It’s also associated with old lawns that haven’t been reseeded nor doused in fertilisers, fungicides, and moss-killers. If you see it on your lawn, try and give it time to release its spores before you mow it.

White spindles is just one of a family of strange and colourful Clavariaceae fungi that fruit in our woods and meadows.
