Yellow Rattle

Rhinanthus minor

could be thousands of this plant in our hay meadows

Yellow rattle has recently had a dramatic affect on Waun Las.

It feeds on grass roots, killing off the big bulky grasses that used to dominate some of these meadows.

The result – more space for wild flowers to spread. Its seeds rattle about when it dries out – with imagination, you could play them like maracas.
