The Head of Interpretation’s role is to create interpretation that informs, entertains and fascinates all Garden visitors, whatever their age, gender or background. This is done through signage, exhibitions, audio-visual, digital, events, talks, tours, trails, art, theatre and family activities.
Among other things, Bruce is an expert on the Garden’s mycology, especially the waxcap meadows, and is an active member of the British Mycological Society. He curates the annual Wales Fungus Day, Wales Wildflower Day and Oriel Yr Ardd Gallery and is closely involved with other art initiatives. He is an accredited Member of the Association of Heritage Interpreters and has been responsible for interpretation at the Garden for the past 14 years. As part of the team that gained National Nature Reserve status for Waun Las in 2008, he was primarily responsible for opening up access to Pont Felin Gât and for ongoing development of public engagement on the nature reserve and farm. A former professional field botanist, he was the natural history collections and exhibitions officer at Oldham Museum and Art Gallery for 12 years.
