We are delighted to welcome Emma Burns, who joined us as a Trustee in 2024.
To help you get to know them better, we asked Emma a few questions about their background, their interests, and what motivated them to become a Trustee for the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
Please tell us a little about your background and why this is relevant to your role as a Trustee at the NBGW?
I qualified as a solicitor over twenty five years ago and now work as a judge. Legal skills and experience are always valuable on trustee boards. I also have experience of previously having been a trustee and chair of the board of a large breast cancer charity.
Why are you committing your time and expertise to being a Trustee of the NBGW?
I have always done voluntary work alongside my paid employment. The NBGW is an important charity for me because of the work it does.
What is your favourite part of the Garden and why?
There are so many parts I love, but I think it
has to be the glass house. It is a wonderful unique piece of architecture, but more importantly houses some amazing exotic plants.
Do you have a favourite plant or tree and if so, why is it your favourite?
I really don’t think I can pick a single favourite. I find plants truly awe inspiring. I’m constantly in disbelief how they grow, often from the tiniest of seeds. I love the amazing variety that exists and feel very strongly we need to preserve them for future generations.
