The Head of Marketing and Communications team is a key role which supports the Garden’s core mission, ethos and ongoing success.
Contributing widely and proactively, both strategically and operationally, the role focuses on delivering an attractive and cost-effective calendar of events and activities, raising the media and public profiles in positive ways, and engaging and encouraging visitor footfall and enjoyment.
In all aspects of the role, building excellent relationships with others inside and beyond the Garden is crucial.
David joined the Garden, initially part-time in June 2006, from the Carmarthen Journal newspaper, where he had been editor since 2002. Until then, his career had been in local and regional media. Prior to that he had been deputy editor at the Gloucestershire Echo in Cheltenham and also worked at the Evening Post, in Bristol. He joined the Garden’s staff on a full-time basis in August 2007.
During this time David has built enviable and positive working relationships for the Garden with partners in all spheres including in particular the national and local print media and gardening forums, as well as across television and radio.
He is now harnessing digital communication and new social media with increasing success so that the Garden’s profile is raised and its links are built internationally.
