Opening of Plant Reception Facility

Botanic Garden Curator, Alex Summers recently went on a trip to one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world,  Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam to collect Mediterranean flora which after a period of quarantine will be housed in our iconic Great Glasshouse.

Alex said: “The Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam (HBA) has amazing wild-collected Cape collections and we have been the first UK garden, post Brexit to get through the new rules and regulations to move plant material across this new border.”

We, as a Botanic Garden work collaboratively in the botanic gardens network to showcase plants, study them and help in their conservation.

This new quarantine facility was opened by Margot and Martin two long serving horticultural volunteers. Thank you both for doing this!
