Earlier in 2017 I attended a concert in the Great Glasshouse where a ukulele player called Sarah Kelly was performing. I had previously met Sarah and a few of her supporters earlier at the Ukulele Festival of Wales at Gower Heritage Centre.
During the course of the ukulele session in the Great Glasshouse, a Uke playing colleague of mine offered some small items for the Apothecary’s Hall which had been used by The Honourable Gwenllian Phillips.
Gwenllian Phillips 1916 -2013 was the daughter of Baron Milford, who lived in Picton Castle. Gwenllian achieved quite a lot in her life, including Justice of the Peace, Subaltern in the Army, and touring Australia in 1958 with Lady Baden Powell as part of a support for girls activities such as Girl Guides and Sea Rangers.
Now here’s the odd thing.
The most interesting item was a small dose-measuring glass in a green case, with “Gwenllian Philipps, her glass. Please return if borrowed.”
Shortly after this had been put on display in the Apothecary’s Hall, in the cabinet to the left of the Baby Weighing scales, one or two people reported feeling a presence in the Hall, that moved quickly through, then paused by the cabinet. Could this be the Honourable Gwenllian checking that her measuring glass is in a good place? Some of us like to think so
