Liz Davis is a glass artist, recently graduated from Swansea School of Art with a first class honours degree in Contemporary Glass. Arriving into the world of glass mid career she takes every opportunity to push the boundaries of her work. Her work speaks to her interest in world events and the emotions they prompt.
Working from her studio at home, close to Monmouth, Liz experiments with inclusions, mould making and seeks to exploit the characteristics of glass as a material relishing the alchemy and sometimes the unpredictable results.
From ‘Geest to Guest’ was inspired by a special holiday to St Lucia and the fascination with the Cocoa Plantation at Hotel Chocolat. The island economy has shifted from bananas to tourism (from Geest to Guest) and the exhibition seeks to link the strong agricultural roots to the artisan chocolate we can buy on our high street.
Most elements are produced from casting glass in moulds taken from fresh cocoa pods and beans. Others use the pods and beans to make marks and create tiles.
