Discover the Ancient Craft of Beekeeping. Join us for an immersive five-week beekeeping course that combines essential theory with plenty of hands-on practice.

Starting Thursday, May 28th, you’ll spend every Thursday from 10:30am to 3:30pm learning everything you need to begin your journey as a beekeeper.

This comprehensive course covers all aspects of beekeeping, from understanding bee behaviour to mastering hive management. By the end of five weeks, you’ll be confident inspecting colonies, identifying different types of bees, and knowing exactly what actions to take to keep your bees healthy and thriving.

Theory sessions take place in our on-site teaching rooms, while practical work happens at our apiary sites within the beautiful Botanic Garden estate. All protective equipment including bee suits and gloves is provided – just bring your sturdy boots or wellingtons.

Meet Your Instructor: Martin Davies

Your course leader is Martin Davies, the Botanic Garden’s experienced beekeeper with over a decade of hands-on experience. Martin manages more than 40 colonies between the Garden and his own apiaries, and his expertise has earned him awards at both the Royal Welsh Show and the prestigious National Honey Show. His passion for beekeeping is matched only by his enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge with newcomers to this rewarding hobby.
