This summer, the National Botanic Garden of Wales invites families, young explorers, and curious minds to take part in Discover & Grow, an exciting programme of hands-on science, nature, sustainability, and outdoor learning experiences.
Blending ecology, chemistry, microscopy, astronomy, horticulture, conservation, and creative outdoor activities, the programme offers interactive workshops and family sessions designed to inspire curiosity through real scientific investigation and immersive discovery.
Bees, Biodiversity & “Bee Miles”
Families will investigate wildflower habitats, identify plants, and measure nectar availability for pollinators. Using real ecological data, participants calculate how much energy bees gain from flowers and convert this into “Bee Miles”- the distance a honeybee could travel using that energy. Teams compete strategically to maximise their Bee Power score while learning about pollinator nutrition, biodiversity, and conservation research.
Suitable for the whole family
Attendees need to purchase garden admission alongside their booking.
