Fire · Poetry · Music · Performance

Dragon’s Breath is an immersive after-dark event experience that combines fire, music, poetry and performance, set against the backdrop of one of Wales’ most iconic landmarks.

A festival of fire, folklore, fantasy and Welsh culture that will illuminate the National Botanic Garden of Wales for four nights this autumn, ahead of its 25th Anniversary next year.

At the end of October, as autumn truly takes hold, and darkness descends, a magical collaboration between the team at the National Botanic Garden of Wales and the UK’s leading outdoor events specialists, Walk The Plank, is set to begin.

The event is a sensory nightime fire-trail that showcases the magic of the Garden after dark, and features intricate hand-crafted fire sculptures, harmonised with performances from artists, poets and musicians who will impart to visitors the spectacular story of the Dragon’s Breath – an environmental allegory – as they make their way along the fire-lit pathways of the Botanic Garden.

As the experience unfolds it will tell the tale of a dying dragon who has abandoned its home on the coast of Rhossili on the nearby Gower Peninsula to find sanctuary in the lake behind the Garden’s iconic Great Glasshouse. Here, dotted around the Garden, visitors will discover young apothecary fire gardeners mixing potions to heal the dragon while also trying to protect the plants and landscape from the dragon’s fire. Through poetry and song that is rich with Celtic resonance, visitors will see that while the earth might be burning, hope lies with young people and their ability to heal the world.

The Dragon’s Breath will run nightly, from Thursday 24th October to Sunday 27th October 2024
