Celebrate UK Fungus Day at the National Botanic Garden of Wales!
Join us on the 5th of October for a day dedicated to the fascinating world of fungi. Discover the hidden wonders of these incredible organisms through expert talks, guided tours, activities for all, and a display of some of the weird and wonderful fungal species found locally.
Our Botanic Garden offers the perfect setting to explore a variety of mushroom-friendly habitats, including woods, fields, meadows, lawns, and flower beds. You’ll encounter a rich diversity of fungal life, from the rare and colourful waxcaps to the peculiar and pungent stinkhorns. Each species is as bizarre as it is beautiful!
Come celebrate the magic of fungi with us! Whether you’re a seasoned mycologist or just curious, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Explore the world of fungi for yourself with a self-guided QR code trail, suitable for all the family to enjoy. You can also decorate your very own wooden mushroom – will you decide to invent your own species or replicate one of the classics?
‘Meadows & Grassland Fungi’ walk with Bruce Langridge
Time: 10:30-11:30 am | Location: starting from visitor entrance
Come and explore the diverse fungi on our very own Waun Las National Nature Reserve, with mycologist Bruce Langridge. Learn more about fungal conservation and the rare species that thrive here with a leisurely stroll into the landscape.
‘Why fungi are critical to you and nature’s well-being’ talk by Professor David Hawksworth
