Science Centre
This Science Centre houses our science laboratories, library, archives, herbarium and the National Seed Bank of Wales.
The Science Labs
Our Science team carries out research to benefit the conservation of plants, pollinators and habitats in Wales and across the world. The DNA barcoding of plants is a key research area and our expertise is recognised internationally.
Our library contains over 2,000 botanical and mycological books, with archives that cover the Garden’s history. To use the library, please contact library@gardenofwales.org.uk
We are helping to conserve Wales’ flora by collecting, cleaning, drying then storing seeds of every native Welsh plant species in our Science Centre.
Our herbarium contains preserved plant and fungi specimens collected as part of our scientific research, a collection of every native plant in Wales and the James Cosmo Melvill collection of UK plants.
Our education team are also based in the Science Centre and the Garden’s Stitching Botanical Group also meet here once a month.
The Science Centre is not open to visitors apart from special event days.
