Red Clover

Trifolium pratense

Around 150 years ago, Charles Darwin carried out a fascinating experiment. He covered 100 red clover flower heads and left 100 uncovered. Weeks later he counted 2700 seeds on uncovered heads but none on the covered heads.

Why? He worked out bees are needed to pollinate clover.

On Waun Las we have lots of red clover and we have lots of bees which are monitored by Garden scientists.
