Travel to the Garden

The Garden is situated 10 minutes from the M4 and 2 minutes from the A48 in Carmarthenshire, mid-way between Cross Hands and Carmarthen.

Details of specific journeys are below:

    Driving from Swansea

    Take the M4 West towards Carmarthen and Pont Abraham services. At the roundabout take the second exit to join the A48  towards Carmarthen. Take the third exit at the Cross Hands roundabout, remaining on the A48. After about 4 miles there is a slip road signposted B4310  to Nantgaredig. Come off here and follow the brown signs to the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

    Driving from Carmarthen

    Take the A48 towards Swansea and after approximately 8 miles take the slip road signposted B4310 to Nantgaredig.  Follow the brown signs for the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

    Taxi

    To get to the Garden from Carmarthen train station will cost between £15-20, from Llandeilo train station between £17-£22 and from Swansea train station £30-£50.

    Bus

    Carmarthen

    The 279 bus leaves Carmarthen bus station at 11:05am, picks up at Carmarthen train station at 11:08, reaching the Garden at 11:30.

    The return trip is at 4.25pm, calling in again at the train station at 4:47pm and back at the bus station for 4:50pm.

    There is an earlier bus back to Carmarthen leaving at 1:10pm. The service is provided by Carmarthenshire County Council, but there is no service on Mondays, Fridays, Sundays and bank holidays. The Garden is not responsible for any changes to the timetable on any given day.-

    Traws Cymru T1S

    This service is currently suspended until further notice due to the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.

    The TrawsCymru Service T1S provides one journey per day from Swansea to the Garden.  The bus leaves Swansea City Bus Station at 12noon, reaching the Garden at 12.42pm.

    The return trip is at 4.19pm, arriving back at the bus station at 5.02pm.  The service is provided by First Cymru and is part of that company’s ‘TrawsCymru’ service.  Over 60s or others with all-Wales Concessionary Pass travel free on this service.  The Garden is not responsible for any changes to the timetable on any given day.

    Your bus ticket entitles you to half price entry (only applies to the full adult admission fee).

    Train

    The Garden is about 8 miles from Carmarthen train station. See the Garden’s Good Journey listing.

    There are regular connecting trains from Carmarthen to Swansea and Cardiff in the east and to Milford Haven in the west. Trains from London Paddington and Birmingham to Carmarthen run every hour or so throughout the day.

    The Garden is about 10 miles from Llandeilo train station. This runs a more limited service along the Heart of Wales Line and there is no connecting bus service to the Garden.

    Cycling

    Anyone who cycles to the Garden can, on handing in their helmets for safekeeping, gets into the Garden for half price (based on the adult ticket price). The Carmarthen-Llanelli loop on the National Cycle Network route 47, goes passed the entrance of The National Botanic Garden of Wales, known as the Celtic Trail.

    If you don’t feel you have got enough time to spend the day in the Garden, our Garden Centre (which doesn’t acquire an admission fee to use) offers light refreshments and free wi-fi.

    Group Travel

    The Botanic Garden is collaborating with Dolen Teifi Community Transport to enable groups and organisations to visit the Botanic Garden.

    A Dolen Teifi Bus

    Dolen Teifi is a non-profit making organisation and a registered charity which aims to provide affordable and accessible transport to individuals, organisations, and groups to help achieve social change in our community within the counties of Carmarthen and Ceredigion.

    Buses are hired to community groups, individuals, and organisations from communities based in Ceredigion and Carmarthen.

    If you are travelling to the Botanic Garden via Dolen Teifi, admission will be half price.
